Cobb & Co. began when a young American, Freeman Cobb, arrived in Melbourne in the 1950s to seek his fortune and instead of heading to the Victorian goldfields, he started up a coaching transport company: Cobb & Co. But he left Australia a few years later and it was another American Rutherford, who created the business.
