It is 1938 and the rule of the Raj in India is drawing to a close. But Mrs Banerjee's cinema, Coronation Talkies, remains a piece of imperial glory in Chalaili, a faded outpost high in the Indian hills. When the sleepy hill-station becomes the setting for seduction, the ramifications are many.
